Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Benhaddou - Dades Valley

Your private driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel/Riad at 08 am before embarking on an interesting journey through which you will join Fes from the Sahara Desert of Erg Chebbi. You’ll initially drive through the spectacular High Atlas Mountains with its snow-capped peaks most of the year. Cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260 m) while enjoying the breathtaking views of the “Berber” Amazigh Villages that are built primarily in adobe & stones by the ever-flowing river. 

You’ll have a guided walking tour of the UNESCO listed Ait Benhaddou Village. This dramatic village consists of numerous (fortresses) that are a striking sample of the southeastern architecture with high four towers & small atop windows. It has been used as a backdrop for shooting national & international films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Sahara, Kingdom of Heaven, Prince of Persia and many others.

Continue on the track through Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa) with the possibility to include a visit to the local Atlas Film Studios. Drive through the palm-dotted oasis of Skoura, Valley of Roses before reaching Boumalne Dades where we will spend our first night.

Day 2: Dades Valley - Todra Gorge - Merzouga & Camel Ride

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad, we will resume our journey further southeast to the Sahara Desert of Erg Chebbi. Stretch your legs in the impressive Todra Gorge (Canyon) that offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking views with the possibility to spot mountain climbers along with locals who would come to enjoy the cooler weather compared to other parts of the south. 

You’ll drive through the palm oasis of Tinjdad where we may have lunch, then continue to the Desert through the administrative center of Erfoud. After a warm welcome with mint tea by the staff members of the hotel/Riad, you’ll have your camel ride experience through the golden sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy the stunning views of the sunset with the possibility to do the sand-boarding before returning to our luxury desert camp where you’ll have a delicious dinner within our tented restaurant tent or under the stars.

Day 3: Explore the Desert Area

Today, we will spend most of the day exploring the desert area & having less-hours of driving. You’ll initially learn about the unique system of irrigation known as “Khettaras” through which water is conveyed from far distances by digging a chain of wells that are interconnected with an underground channel. Drive through the village of Merzouga to the Khamlia Village. The latter is resided by a tribe who were brought as slaves from the Sub-Sahara lands & they are known for the Gnawa Music, which they perform to the guest-visitors as a way to gain a source of income.

Have a complete tour around the sand dunefield of Erg Chebbi while including many short breaks for taking pictures. You’ll visit a local nomad family so that you can learn about their unique style of life while sharing a mint tea with them. After lunch, you’ll drive back to your hotel/Riad by the sand dunes where you can relax & chill out to get prepared for the next day’s adventure.

Day 4: Merzouga - Erfoud - Midelt -Ifran - Fes

After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad, we will head north to the spiritual city of Fes. We will include a short break in the panoramic valley of Ziz with its countless palm trees. Have lunch in Midelt before continuing through the UNESCO preserved cedar forest. This forest hosts a colony of Barbary Apes that you can possibly meet & feed. Have a short break in the beautiful city of Ifran before reaching Fes in the late afternoon.
